The Durban Aikido Club is the foremost Aikido club in Kwa - Zulu Natal. Its  predecessor was known as the Natal Aikkai which was operated and run by Barry Anderson Sensei and Owain Roberts and then later succeeded by Brian van Der Merwe Sensei. The Durban Aikido Club opened in the year 2000 at the Westville Civic Centre and was accepted as a member dojo into the Aikido Federation of South Africa (AFSA). In 2004 the Durban Aikido Club became one of the founder members of the South African Aikido Association which is a direct affiliate of the Serbian Aikido Federation which is directly affiliated to Hombu Dojo in Japan. The Durban Aikido is also a proud member and direct affiliate of the Makoto Aikido Kyokai of The United States of America who is also directly affiliated to Hombu Dojo. The Durban Aikido Club is proud of these affiliations and maintains them with regular interaction and feedback in order to ensure that the dojo is on the cutting edge of training aikido students.

The Durban Aikido Club is proactive in ensuring that its students are exposed to a wide spectrum of expert aikido instructors internationally. The Durban Aikido Club  is currently supervised by Velibor Vesovic, 6th  Dan Serbia,  Shihan Larry Reynosa, 6th Dan USA (Reynosa Shihan is the most senior and highest ranked student of famous actor and aikido master Steven Seagal Shihan 7th Dan) and  Darko Vucetic 5th Dan South Africa and Croatia. The Durban Aikido Club has hosted many high ranking Aikido instructors such as Mutsuko Minegishi (7th Dan who is the highest ranking International rated Aikidoist), The Late Giorgio Veneri, 6th Dan Italy, Franco Martufi 6th Dan Italy, Larry Reynosa Shihan 6th Dan USA, Velibor Vesovic 6th Dan Serbia, The Late Gilbert Malliot,5th Dan France (Long Time student of Christiaan Tissier) Erik Louw 5th Dan, Holland. Daniel Kempling 5th Dan, Canada (Student of Chiba).
